"We had spent a whole rehearsal coming up with an original arrangement of the Rolling Stones song "Down Home Girl", and realized that if we were gonna work this hard on a song it might as well be a song of our own. Tyner went off by himself for a few minutes and came back with lyrics hollering. "I just wrote a protest song!". A little more work, and "One Of The Guys" was born. Recorded in one day. (Three hours actually. We had to clear out because Edwin Starr had the next session booked and Edwin was not fucking around). (Wayne Kramer - '66 Breakout! liner notes)
